SYNOPSIS

This continues Star Wars Episode 4's space battle. Rebel X-Wing fighters attack the Death Star space station at its weak spot. One X-Wing breaks away to pursue two enemy sentry TIE fighters. He shoots down one but the other gets him and he crash lands on the fourth moon of Yavin. There he is pursued by a Stormtrooper. The Death Star explosion fills the sky and the distraction allows the X-Wing pilot the chance to shoot the Stormtrooper and win the day.

DETAILS

Calvertfilm's flagship movie lasts just 5 minutes but is full of pace and exciting imagery. The TIE fighter and X-Wing shots are green screened onto fast moving star fields with animating lasers. The film features a Stormtrooper costume and an X-Wing pilot outfit. Sound effects move around in full stereo. Computer graphics feature too. Real model explosions and smoke effects were used and a cockpit made.

X-Wing was in production for 2 years from 1998 - 2000. It has been 'finished' several times and then improved upon. Over 400 hours work have gone into it with about 4 shooting days for the models and live action. Originally models on strings were used but now the models are on a gimble and then composited (put into) the background. The X-Wing costume cost about £250 and the Stormtrooper costume £1000. Laurie's dad was composited into a Base One scene from the original movie. Actor Dave Prowse (Darth Vader) voices a line in the movie too. Laurie's favourite film along with the Starfighters movies.

DETAILS

This 112 minute long (4th CGI) feature length movie was made in 12 hours over 5 days by Laurie Calvert and his sons Laurie and Jonathan. The idea was to make something as easily as possible, and just for our own enjoyment. Game footage was captured and then it was edited into the story. Laurie and Jon love this film. Made 2008.
