‘Extinction’ (Sci-fi)

Set in the near future, a new type of theme park has been created populated by dinosaurs. But these dinosaurs are all animatronics. The plod around the special reserve acting out the lifestyles of their real-life predecessors, and that even includes hunting and killing each other. Tourists can watch in perfect safety as they are ignored by the robot animals.

A few years later and the theme park’s popularity is waning, so the owners (our heroes) decide to make an extension to the park with a new set of robodinos – these dinosaurs have amour plating and the like. They are a sort of cross between a dinosaurs and machinery with the mechanical parts on view. A Stegosaurus is crossed with a tank, and Raptors are armed with laser machine guns. T-Rex carries a huge paintball Gatling gun that fires red splatter paint. The ‘weapons’ are only harmful to the robodinos and not to people. They are not real weapons, just paint and lasers. The crowds come back interested to see the new designs and the imaginative ideas that have evolved.

But a radical group also sees the potential to convert these robodinos with real weapons to conquer the Earth. They steal them all, and begin to arm them with real cannons and guns that fire, lasers that burn, bombs and grenades that explode. They begin their reign of terror within days, threatening to take control of first a city, then a country, then eventually the world!

The only way to defeat them is to use the old animatronic real-looking dinosaurs. But our heroes have to beef them up a bit. T-Rex now runs at 100 mph, Raptors claws are now able to slash through concrete and steel, and Terrasaurs fly at supersonic speeds.

So humans are caught in the middle as a massive fight begins between the two types of dinosaurs to gain control of the Earth by making the other type extinct (again).

'Natural selection with a twist'.

'Time to Tell'

A sci-fi time travel short story that explains why we might actually have time travellers and why therefore nobody really ever dies. Here. Written 2008.

‘Mother Earth’ (Sci-fi)

Man has brought chaos to the weather systems. Misguided attempts to control the weather to prevent Global Warming have in fact damaged the naturally occurring changes. Now Earth’s climate is about to self-implode. Weather patterns are horrific all over the globe, almost as if the Earth is fighting back.

She is.

Our planet is in fact a sentient being. One of many planets that evolve their own life forms on their surface as a sort of purpose in life. But mankind has gone too far, and Mother Earth’s very existence is threatened.

Next she moves out of orbit. Weather systems are destroyed. Where is she going? It seems to get help from another planetary body. This planet sends help -in the form of its own inhabitants….humankind definitely has a problem now. Or do we?

‘Stunnas’ (Sci-fi)

Years ago Tanterra aliens were landing on Earth in asteroid spacecraft. But they never survived. They died before they could do any real harm. The Military tried to capture a few but they all died, much to Sergeant Geo Ravage’s anger.

Also years ago, military scientist Jeff Jefferson created colourful unisex armoured fighting suits that were easy to move about in, yet strong enough to deflect bullets. These he called his Stunnas suits, because they used stun gun technology to knock out assailants and people looked stunning wearing them. But Geo Ravage wanted the military to use these suits for attack rather than defence. The two men couldn’t agree, and so Jeff took his suits away and hid.

Present day. More asteroids are landing. This time Geo has figured a way to keep the aliens alive. He is training them to be an elite fighting force, to conquer the Earth.

Jeff realises what his old adversary is doing but these days Jeff is too old to fight himself. He enlists the reluctant (at first) help of his daughter Maria. She trains and becomes very powerful.

Maria and Jeff eventually confront Geo and his Tanterra aliens in a big battle. It is here we see that Jeff’s son and wife are also Stunnas, as a whole army of colourful suits parades to the fore, knocking out the Tanterras and Geo’s plans are destroyed for good.

But before he goes, Geo kills Jeff’s wife. Geo flies away from Earth in a space craft. Maria and her brother follow, determined to avenge their mother’s death. It is on another planet they realise Geo is not human at all but yet another race of being, which are used to controlling the Tanterras as slaves. But unbeknown to Geo, he is the last of his kind. They leave him alone on his old home planet to die in solitude, except for the vicious Tanterras that roam the planet looking for food….

'Forever Alive' (Sci-fi)

A time travel story in which people from the future do indeed come back and visit us. But so as not to change the timeline they cannot interact in a way that we are conscious of. They exist around us in another dimension. In fact, in the future you can book a type of 'holiday' to travel back anytime and observe events in history. Where would you go to? I like to think this may be happening and the upbeat moral of the story is that nobody ever dies therefore as we can all live again in this way.

'The Windmiller Man' (Horror)

A wizened old grey-skinned creature that lives in a disused windmill. It feeds on scraps, pigeons and rats until one eventful day when some teenagers decide to restore the windmill. They find the remains of a family that once lived there, plus a diary telling the story of how one family member went crazy and killed the others, a long forgotten story that the village once told and was considered folk-lore. Then they realise they are not alone. The crazy one still lives there, and now it has a new supply of food....the teenagers. The restoration leader discovers the once human creature that barely survives there, and he befriends it, leading victims into its clutches, and making sure the other teenagers don't find it. It is wizened and slow, creepy and scary and the girls are easy victims to this creature as it scares them rigid with fear, plus it has the restoration leader as its accomplice to entrap the girls. The leader feels pride in that he is creating this monster and he becomes deranged himself, obsessed with this creature. He gets revenge on many of his female friends that wouldn't go out with him, or have been cruel to him in the past, using his fear of female relationships to feed his obsession.

Several girls begin to go missing until eventually one particular skinny but clever teenage male, our unlikely hero, attempts to rescue his missing girlfriend. He figures things out. He discovers her, just barely alive, in the cellar, in amongst the remains of her friends. But now he has to face the creature, and now because it has had a good supply of food, it is huge, a glorious monstrous nemesis, fully developed and angry, ready to leave the windmill too. Plus it still has the help of the restoration leader. But the monster will turn on its restoration leader helper when he bleeds during a fight and it will ironically devour him too as its lust for blood clouds its mind, our hero will manage to kill the monster through clever tactics, but then we realise that the monster wasn't alone. Not all of its family were killed after all, and the other family members still live in the old windmill, albeit as wizened old things....Our hero escapes barely, with his girlfriend and he boards up the windmill again, and lives nearby forever standing guard on that condemned place. He shoots any pigeon that flies nearby, and splashes rat-killer around the windmill in the hope the family is forever entombed inside starved.

''Freaky' (Horror)

A simpler to make version of 'The Windmiller Man' idea I had. Freaky lives under the bed of a house that an evil guy buys. He finds Freaky and names him. He also decides to find female victims to entice back to his house for Freaky to devour. A local group of girls become the victims. One by one the evil guy entices them back to his house, and they start to go missing. One particular studious girl is trying to become more confident and outgoing, and eventually she is to become our hero, killing Freaky (after Freaky has got angry with the evil guy and killed him too). She is the reluctant hero. Nevertheless all is not over for the possible sequel as a host of other Freaky types live under the floorboards.

Hunter' (Horror)

A Vampire kills a young girl in a forest and her boyfriend barely escapes with his life. But he vows to get revenge. Over the years he trains to become a fearless Vampire killer known as the 'Hunter'. Eventually the Vampires realise why they can never seem to kill him. The boyfriend has in fact made a robot duplicate of himself to fight on his behalf. Now Hunter has to defend its inventor, and in a strange twist invents a way itself to protect him.
